Ibiza is one of those places that completely flips whatever ideas you might have had about it. You probably think you know what it's all about – the wild parties, the superclubs, the all-nighters – and yes, those are definitely part of the vibe. But once you actually go, you’ll see it’s so much more layered, and honestly, it’s the quieter, more hidden bits that really stuck with me.
There’s something really special about starting your day with a coffee in one of those tiny whitewashed villages inland – Santa Gertrudis is one of my absolute favourites. You’ll find proper local cafeterias, not the flashy Instagram stuff, and you’ll sit next to old Ibicencos chatting about everything and nothing. Then later, maybe you’ll wind your way down to one of those tucked-away coves – I’m talking about Cala d’en Serra or Aguas Blancas – where the sea is this crazy clear blue and you’ll forget time exists for a bit.
Even Ibiza Town has a softer side. Walk up to Dalt Vila – that old walled city bit – and suddenly you’re surrounded by cobbled streets, ancient walls and views that’ll make your heart skip. And it’s even better in the early evening when everything’s glowing gold and you’ve got that buzz in the air just before the night really begins.
What I loved most is how the island somehow makes room for everyone. Whether you’re dancing at sunset in San Antonio, having a long lazy lunch with your feet in the sand at a beach shack near Cala Jondal, or just getting totally lost in the pine-covered hills on a walk you didn’t plan – it all feels like it fits.
The food’s a whole thing too – it’s not all overpriced beach clubs. Find a little roadside grill or family-run place and try the bullit de peix – it’s a sort of fish stew that’s very much “you had to be there”, in the best way.
Ibiza just gets you – whether you’re up for a full-on adventure or just want to breathe for a while. It’ll leave a mark, and you’ll definitely want to come back.
