Benalmadena is a popular holiday resort near Malaga on the Costa del Sol
Benalmadena lies some 19 kms west of Malaga airport and the capital, and sits between the towns of Fuengirola and Torremolinos with a population of around 45.000 inhabitants. The municpality is plsit into three area, the old village known and Benalmadena Pueblo, the coastal part Benalmadena Costa and the modern town known as Arroyo de la Miel.

Benalmadena has more than 8km of blue flag beaches some of which are in small rocky coves. The best beaches along Benalmadena's coastline include:
» Bil - Bil Beach, the most popular as it is the largest sandy beach located in front of the Bill-Bil castle and runs along to the entrance of the marina. There are plenty of sun beds to rent for day as well as many beach bars and restaurants.
» Torrevigia is a nice beach area locates close to Sunset Beach, The beach offers plenty of parking close by, disabled access, a first aid centre, beach bars and restaurants and is very child friendly with a playground area.
» Tajo de la Soga, if you like quiet rocky covers this is the beach for you. Not particularly graced with lots of sand you will be treated to a peaceful day on the beach as the area is not ferequneted by lots of holiday makers. There are a couple of beach bars but little else.
» Fuente de la Salud beach is located at the western end of the Benalmadena Marina and one of the most popular beaches with plenty of sand, bars, restaurants, showers and a first aid booth. This is a perfect beach for families close to the hotels and all other amenities.
Other beaches include Malapesquera, Benalnatura ( nudust beach ) and Melilleros all of which are worth visiting.
The seafront was pedestrianised a few years ago and runs from the western end of Benalmadena to the famous Carihuela district of Torremolinos. The absence of road traffic right along the seafront area makes it prefect for long tranquil walks day or night. The long beach front walkway is lined with numerous beach bars offering great tapas and local fish and rice dishes.
The old village has still maintained some its oldy world charm despite the large numbers of visitors and new constructions that have grown up near the Village. It is still possible, even in mid summer, to walk around the old part of the village for a peaceful meander to discover some very quaint and friendly tapas bars and inexpensive restaurants. Arroyo de la Miel
The busy commercial town centre separating the village on the hill from the sea front. Arroyo has grown rapidly, due greatly to the excellent train service running between Fuengirola and Malaga, as well as good road connection.
