Covera Airport Murcia

Murcia Airport Corvera

Murcia's new airport at Corvera opened on the 15th January and has been welcomed by flight companies and travellers alike.

Corvera airport Murcia (RMU ) replaces the existing one at San Javier which fed the Mar Menor, Cartagena and Murcia areas. Initial figures suggest Murcia’s new airport will receive around four million passengers annually, which should give a huge boost to the region's economy and tourism industry.

I thought I would grab a cheap flight from one of the low-cost carriers and check out this brand new shiny airport for myself.  Firstly I headed off to Skyscanner, my trusted cheap flight finder and got a great deal with Ryanair, yes love them or hate them, a great deal at just £39 return flight from London Stansted.

The 2-hour flight from London's Stansted airport arrived bank on time at Corvera where I was greeted by the most laid back airport I think I have flown to.  At the moment there are few flights which mean hardly any queuing for anything.

FREE Wifi

Murcia Airport Corvera

Great news for departing travellers as the airport provides a free wifi service.

The main terminal has two levels with the arrivals hall and check-in desks on the ground floor with the departures area on the first floor.

The arrivals hall has a tourist information desk, a check-in area,  toilets, a Costa Coffee shop, ATM machine, airline offices and a collection point. Taxis are located just outside the arrivals terminal to the right-hand side.

The airport itself, although quote small as international airports go, is modern and well laid out.  There are plenty of taxis to go around plus lots of parking. When I arrived just after the airport opened the parking barriers were not operating so for now parking is free.

At the moment there is little in the way of shops or cafeterias, this should change though as the passenger numbers increase.

There are currently four car rental companies, GoldCar, Centauro, Europcar and Firefly with offices in the main terminal. For my flying one day trip I booked a car through Firefly for just £7.81 all included with a full-to-full fuel policy, pretty good I thought.

Transport Links

Murcia Airport Corvera

The airport is well located, just a 30-minute drive to Murcia, Cartagena, San Javier and all the top beach resorts in the area. The roads leading in and out of Corvera are practically all-new, there is little traffic so access is incredibly easy at the moment. The toll-free A30 motorway and the RM19 dual carriageway all lead to and from Corvera.

There are currently 4 bus services operating at the airport offering very reasonable rates to the top local destinations, Murcia City costs €6, Cartagena €12 and Los Alcazares €15.

There is a local bus service ( Latbus Linea 72 ) which runs between Murcia and Corvera town.

Great location

La Manga Spain
La Manga Spain

Just 30 minutes from Murcia City, Cartagena and La Manga.

The location is ideal for visiting holiday golfers as you are just a short drive from the top local golf courses such as the renowned La Manga Golf Resort, La Torre Golf, Las Terrazas de la Torre, Mar Menor and La Roda. The new Murcia golf has been enthusiastically welcomed by the golf tour operators who offer golf package holidays as it is now much closer to all the top Murcia golf resorts.

At the moment until the major airlines are all using the new airport you will probably find more flight deals to the larger established Alicante airport, which is located around 95 kilometres away.

If you plan to visit Murcia, northern Almeria or southern Alicante then it would be wise to search for flight deals to Corvera as the overall travelling experience much more laid back and stress-free.
