Santana Golf

The Santana Golf & Country Club is a remarkable 18-hole golf course, boasting a par 72 and measuring approximately 6,208 meters from the white tees and 5,654 meters from the yellow tees. Nestled in a serene and picturesque 138-acre parkland, this course was brilliantly designed by the renowned architect Cabell B. Robinson. Originally an avocado plantation, the natural landscape provided the perfect canvas for Robinson's expertise. The result is a magnificent course with wide and well-defined fairways, gently rolling across level terrain, where water features enhance the design without overwhelming it.

Each hole at Santana offers two championship tees and two additional tees for general play, catering to both men and women. The putting greens are impeccably maintained, surrounded by strategically placed bunkers filled with crushed marble sand.

The overall layout and surroundings of the course are simply stunning, set in a beautiful natural environment. The remnants of avocado trees from the original plantation dot the landscape, along with various indigenous trees and plants such as eucalyptus, orange and lemon trees, cactus, pines, fig-trees, olive and mango trees. The diverse bird population, including the majestic Calzada Eagle, further enhances the unique atmosphere. Notably, a magnificent 500-year-old cork tree near the 5th hole stands as an impressive testament to the region's history.

Technically speaking, the Santana golf course presents a demanding challenge, as each hole is uniquely designed to provide a continuous test, even for the most experienced players. The long hitters can showcase their skills on holes 4 and 8, the two expansive par 5s, while the large undulating greens offer a delightful challenge for all players.

While the club offers a fleet of new electric buggies, I highly recommend walking the course to fully immerse yourself in its natural beauty. In summary, Santana is a truly spectacular course that deserves a spot on any golf itinerary along the Costa del Sol.
