Santana Golf Course
Santana Golf Course – a stunning course located in the Mijas golf valley
Ask other players who have enjoyed playing golf on the Costa del Sol which course they would rank up with the best and I am sure you will hear Santana Golf mentioned on numerous occasions. If you plan to visit Spain to play golf on the Costa del Sol in the near future then I would highly recommend you play here.
The Santana Golf & Country Club is an 18 Hole golf course par 72 of approx. 6208 meters off the white tees and 5654 meters off the yellow tees. It is set in 138 acres of tranquil and picturesque parkland. It was designed quite brilliantly by well know course architect Cabell B. Robinson, and is set in a former avocado plantation and provided the perfect natural solution for this able designer. The result is a magnificent course with wide and well defined fairways on level terrain, and where water features play an important although not excessive part in the finished design.
Each hole has two championship tees and two tees for general play for both men and ladies, with wide and excellently manicured putting greens which are surrounded by strategically placed bunkers, filled with sand made from crushed marble.
The whole course layout and surroundings are simply quite stunning and set in a beautiful natural environment, the course is scattered by avocado trees left over from the original plantation, and many other trees and plants indigenous to Spain and the local area including although eucalyptus, orange and lemon trees, cactus, pines, fig trees, olive and mango trees, this along with a varied population of indigenous birds, such as the Calzada eagle make this a unique enclave. There is an old cork tree by the 5th hole which is over 500 years old, very impressive.
Santana Golf is technically speaking a demanding course as the unique design of each hole is intended to give a continuous challenge, even for the more experienced player.
The big hitters can let of steam on holes 4 and 8, the two long par 5s and everyone will enjoy the large sprawling undulating greens, which will test even the best of players.
Although the club does have a good fleet of new electric buggies I would recommend walking Santana to fully enjoy its natural beauty. To sum up, Santana is quite simply spectacular and arguably one of the best courses on the Costa del Sol.
Santana Golf has become a firm favourite with visiting golfing groups to the Costa del Sol. It is must course to play if you are thinking of playing in and around the Mijas area. Golfing holidays to the Costa del Golf would not be the same without playing this fine course located just 15 minutes from the centre of Fuengirola.
