Cabopino Golf Guide

The Cabopino golf course is located between Fuengirola and Marbella opposite the beautiful marina where the club gets its name from – Puerto Cabopino.

Cabopino golf was inaugurated in April 2001 and offers an 18 hole – Par 71 course designed by Spanish architect Juan Ligues. He made good use of the contours, also leaving intact hundreds of existing pine trees that have grown in the area long before the course arrived.  Cabopino Golf has become of the best value courses on the Costa del Sol and a popular choice when it comes to including a round here when customising golf packages to Marbella.

Cabopino golf is quite tight in places and quite short and not overly difficult to play. If you are wild hitter then be prepared to lose a lot of balls during your round. It is a good test of your golfing skills so thoughtful and patient play will pay dividends.

Most of the greens are quite large, interesting, each one different to the last. It is a challenge for players of all handicaps. It consists of three par-3s, two par-5s and thirteen par-4s.

The first two Par 4 holes are good warm-up holes, nothing special, then you reach the extraordinary third hole with its tee box some 200 meters above the fairway and green below. The hole is quite spectacular and will last long in your memory. The tight fairway below sits between two hilly slopes, the green is protected by a large bunker at the front with an old olive tree to keep it company and strategically placed to guard the large elevated green.

The most difficult hole on the course is the 5th, not long at 378 meters,  a  straight drive is a must here as the whole right side is out of bounds, the second shot then has to be weaved between a tight gap into the open clearing where the green is located. A bold drive here will reap rewards.

Unusually you will have to wait until the 12th hole to play your first par 5. An interesting hole that requires a good uphill drive to be placed well for your second over the lake. An accurate approach shot is required to take out the surrounding bunkers and pine trees which guard the green very well if you are to make par.

One of most picturesque holes is the Par 3 – 13th with another elevated tee leading down to a green guarded by a large lake on the right side and a section of the front which really gives you something to think about with your tee shot.

The clubhouse sits atop a hill overlooking the course and sea. It houses a very nice restaurant which offers excellent lunch and beverages at very reasonable prices.
