Day 1: Explore the Old Town and the Waterfront

To kick off your weekend Visit the Sagrada Familia, one of Barcelona's most recognisable sites.

With intricate features and organic shapes that capture Gaudi's vision of nature and spirituality, this magnificent basilica is a marvel of Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture.

It was created by the brilliant architect Antoni Gaudi. The church is still being built, but it should be finished in 2026, the centennial of Gaudi's passing.

You can admire the exterior of the basilica from different angles, or book your tickets online in advance to enter the interior and see the impressive stained glass windows, columns, vaults, and altars.

You can also choose to visit one of the towers for a panoramic view of the city and the basilica itself.

After marvelling at the Sagrada Familia, head to La Selecta de Churros for a delicious snack. It is located a 2-minute walk away at the Plaça Sagrada Família, 26. This cosy cafe offers some of the best churros in town, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with hot chocolate or coffee. You can also try some of their savoury options, such as sandwiches, salads, or croquettes.

Next, hop on a bus or take a taxi to Park Güell, another masterpiece by Gaudi.

This park was originally conceived as a residential complex for wealthy families, but it was never completed and became a public park in 1926.

The park is full of whimsical structures and colourful mosaics that showcase Gaudi's creativity and imagination. You can stroll through the park and admire the views of the city from different vantage points.

Don't miss the main entrance with the dragon fountain, the monumental zone with the serpentine bench and the columns hall, and the house where Gaudi lived for 20 years, which is now a museum.

After enjoying some fresh air and nature at Park Güell, make your way back to Passeig de Gracia, one of the most elegant boulevards in Barcelona.

Here you can find some of the most famous buildings by Gaudi and other Modernista architects, such as Casa Batllo, Casa Mila (also known as La Pedrera), and Casa Amatller.

You can admire their facades from the street or book your tickets online to visit their interiors and learn more about their history and design.

For a relaxing break after a busy day of sightseeing, head to the chic rooftop bar located at Sir Victor Hotel. Here you can enjoy a drink and a snack while soaking up the views of Passeig de Gracia and Gaudi´s La Pedrera. The rooftop also has a pool and a spa that you can access for an extra fee.

To end your first day in Barcelona with a bang, head to Montjuic Hill for one of the most spectacular shows in town: the Magic Fountain.

The fountain was built for the 1929 International Exhibition and features a dazzling display of water jets, lights, colours, and music.

The show takes place every weekend from 8 pm to 9 pm (check the official website for exact times) and lasts about 15 minutes.

You can watch it from different spots around the fountain or from Plaça d'Espanya.

Day 2: Discover Gaudi's Masterpieces and Enjoy Some Tapas

Start your second day in Barcelona by visiting one of its most charming neighbourhoods: Gracia. This area was once an independent village that was annexed by Barcelona in 1897. It still retains its own identity and character, with narrow streets, cosy squares, local shops, cafes, and restaurants.

You can wander around the streets and discover some of the hidden gems of Gracia, such as the colourful Casa Vicens (Gaudi's first major work), the charming Plaça de la Virreina, or the quirky Cereria Subirà (the oldest existing shop in Barcelona, dating back to 1761).

For lunch, head to La Pepita ( C/ de Còrsega, 343 ), a cosy and trendy tapas bar that serves creative and delicious dishes made with fresh and local ingredients. Try their signature pepitas (mini sandwiches with various fillings) or their daily specials. Don't forget to leave some space for dessert: their homemade cheesecake is to die for. And if you want to learn more about the gastronomy of the region a good way to do so is by joining a Barcelona food tour, it's also a great way to meet like-minded people on your trip.

In the afternoon, take a metro or a bus to Montjuïc Hill, a green oasis that offers some of the best views of Barcelona.

Here you can find some of the most interesting attractions of the city, such as the Montjuïc Castle (a former fortress that now hosts exhibitions and events), the Olympic Stadium (where the 1992 Olympic Games took place), the National Art Museum of Catalonia (with a stunning collection of Catalan art from Romanesque to modern times), and the Poble Espanyol (a replica of a traditional Spanish village with shops, workshops, and restaurants).

If you're feeling adventurous, you can also take a cable car ride from Montjuïc to Barceloneta Beach, enjoying the panoramic views of the city and the sea along the way.

Alternatively, you can take a funicular ride from Montjuïc to Paral·lel metro station, where you can catch another cable car to Tibidabo Hill, another viewpoint that offers spectacular views of Barcelona and its surroundings.

For dinner, head to La Paradeta, a self-service seafood restaurant that offers fresh and quality products at affordable prices.

You can choose from a variety of fish and shellfish displayed on ice, and they will cook it for you on the spot. You can also order some salads, sauces, bread, and drinks to accompany your meal.

The restaurant has several locations in Barcelona, but the one in El Born is close to some of the best bars and clubs in town.

To end your weekend in Barcelona on a high note, head to El Born or El Gotic for some drinks and a great night out.

Here you will find lots of bars and clubs for every taste and mood, from cosy pubs and wine bars to trendy cocktail bars and live music venues.

Some of our favourites are Bar Sauvage (a stylish bar with exotic cocktails and DJ sets), Paradiso (a speakeasy bar hidden behind a pastrami shop), La Confiteria (a former candy store turned into a vintage bar), Jamboree (a legendary jazz club), and Marula Cafe (a funky club with soul, funk, and disco music).
