And one of the best ways you can do this is to ensure which ever travel company you book through is ATOL protected. All the companies we have referenced above are fully guaranteed by the ATOL protection scheme.
But who and what is ATOL ?
ATOL is a financial scheme set up by the CAA ( Civil Aviation Authority ) to protect the rights of travellers that once the holiday has been paid to an ATOL member a traveller will not loose the money or be left stranded in a foreign country due to the travel agent going bust.
What bookings are protected by ATOL ?
Bookings related to an air holiday package (a flight plus accommodation/car hire reserved within the same booking is termed as a “Package”)
A flight and related car hire or accommodation booked for the same trip, on the same calendar day, the day before or the day after the booking of the flight – this type of reservation is known as a “Flight Plus”
And provided that the Package or Flight Plus booking contains a flight departing from United Kingdom to a non-United Kingdom destination and for a duration of over 24 hours.
Full details can be seen on the ATOL page.
